A Team Saturday without Tom and Garth?

July 26th, 2009, by

I'll be honest....Team Saturday just wasn't the same without Tom and Garth. Without Garth, we had nobody to be "Captain of the shirtless guys", and without Tom nobody even went heavier than the Rx'd weights. We missed you guys!

I LOVE chipper workouts (aka the filthy fifty). I know a lot of you think I'm crazy, but there's something about being able to get after a movement and be DONE WITH IT that just makes the chippers easier to get through. I don't recommend having 3 cups of coffee and no food before working out, just for future reference.

The workout was done in teams of two:

100 double unders
90 push-ups
80 deadlifts (60kg)
70 sit-ups
60 jumping pull-ups
50 wall ball shots(20lb)
40 KB swings (24kg)
30 box jumps (24")
20 calorie row
10 yards walking on hands

Each partner had to do at least one rep of each exercise.  Or in the case of the walking on the hands, each person had to take at least one "step". Bill paired us off into teams, gave us the 3, 2, 1 GO, and off we went! Brian and I had a strong lead coming off the double unders. He busted out some amazing double unders out of nowhere! Pete and Beth quickly caught up, and blew past us on the deadlifts and push-ups. Super Dave and Giles were close on our heels!

In the end, Pete and Beth took the championship! Congratulations you two!

  • Dang, I'm bummed I missed this one, although it doesn't seem to be the same 'filthy fifty' that I remember from a few months back, when are we doing that one again so I can be sure not to miss it? By the way mad props to anyone who got 9 rounds plus on Friday, I was watching with 'Super Dave' as the first group was going and he was like, 'what are you shooting for Mark?' either of us having no idea we figured 10 rounds seemed reasonable, I got 8.5 while the super trio a la Dave, Garth and Tom finished 9, but 10 seems just crazy. All I have to say is the GYG dudes are for real, competitive and crazy.

  • I missed not being at the team challenge, but I was there in spirit. Thanks to Super Dave for E-mailing the information so I had something to read while waiting in lines for adrenaline rushing roller coasters. Thanks dude!

And mad props back to Mark for not only more frequent appearances to the GYG, but also - and most impressively - nobody heard diddly-poo about his back squats and floor presses. 135K back squat for a triple and 120 for a floor press. Sound right Mark?

  • Hijacking the most recent post here....
I have my monthly poker night coming up on Friday night in Grayslake. It is a hold'em tournament. Not high stakes but still competitive. If anyone wants to come or wants details, let me know.
You may now return to your regularly scheduled post....

  • I missed a good one - going to be out of town next weekend too. What a bummer! I hate missing Saturday Team Challenge :(

  • I figured out what was so different about Team Saturday without Garth:

    Much less half-nakedness.
