Challenge yourself…it’s what all the cool kids are doing!

May 5th, 2009, by

We have some STRONG PEOPLE at the Fort! Yesterday our strength work was 3 sets of 3 push press. Many of you set PR’s! Congratulations! It’s great to see everyone making continuous improvement. Our metcon yesterday was a short 10:00 blast. The workout was:

AMRAP in 10:00 of

1 TALL box jump
4 chest to bar pull-ups
4 clapping push-ups

Bill asked everyone to really challenge themselves on the box jumps. If you usually use the 20” box, step it up to the 24” box. It was great to see everyone leaping onto the boxes! It’s a mental struggle for some people to make that jump. We’ve all seen the videos, and watched each other miss a box jump that leaves us with hurty shins. Believe me I know first hand how much it hurts to miss the box. The key is to just jump. Don’t over think it or you’ll psych yourself out. It took about 7 minutes of coaxing, but even Barbie jumped onto the 24” box yesterday! ATTA GIRL! If you’ve met Barbie, you know the 24” box is damn near up to her waist. You’re tiny, but we love you.

I would like to congratulate our latest ramp-up class on successfully completing the program. You can expect to see four new faces in our group classes in the upcoming days. Let’s welcome Ryan, Jeanne, Jessica and Todd!

  • Yesterday's workout was a lot of fun. Garth and I both went with the 34" box jumps. We went head-to-head on this workout, with Zach encouraging us the whole way through. When it ended, we both had completed 14 rounds plus 1 box jump...a tie!

But a tie is okay...it just means I have to push it a little harder to beat Garth tomorrow morning, whatever y'all may have in store for us!

  • Loving the box jumps! Dave almost killed himself this morning trying to get a 41" jump in. And I almost took Tom out when I missed a 34" jump during the WOD and stumbled across the room. Dangerous but fun!

  • Tom: Curse you and your peer pressure!

Garth: It was fun beating you by 20 seconds in this morning's MetCon. HOWEVER, it has been over 1500 hours since I last had an alcoholic beverage...for you, it had been less than 6 hours and I'm pretty sure you were still drunk. Well done!

  • I wish we had both wipeouts on video. I was in mid-air, coming down off the box when Garth wiped out.

Dave's wipeout however was just sensational. Adding insult to injury was both Garth AND Mayor Zach laughing at Dave. The guy busted up his shin and knocked the wind out of himself.

Nobody said CF was easy and painless......

  • We were laughing with Dave, not at him. Until we realized he wasn't laughing of course :)

And I felt like my fall was very graceful, incorporating a spin and lunge in true Crossfit style!

  • Thanks Jennie! :-) Thank you for everyones encouragement! Thanks to Bill for the help with that one! Hey, I can check that off my GOAL list! I didn't think I'd be doing it this soon but Im glad I did! ;-)
