“Don’t even THINK about getting a drink”

April 23rd, 2009, by

Bill's comments to us before the workout:

"Don't even THINK about getting a drink"
"This workout should leave you GASPING for air, and flat on your back at the end"
"If you aren't absolutely wiped out at the end, you didn't go hard enough"

Yesterday I had to pee 3 times before the workout. It was due largely to the pep talk that Bill gave the 6PM class before we got started. The workout we did last night was one from the 2008 CrossFit Games:

5 rounds for time
5 deadlifts (125/85kg)
10 burpees

Do it fast. Don't rest. Scale appropriately so that you finish in 3- 6 minutes. 3, 2, 1, GO! Hoo baby was this a killer workout! Very few of us are beasty enough to do this one as prescribed, but then again, it was meant to test the abilities of the fittest people on the planet. It was amazingly hard, but everyone did really well.

Congratulations to our ramp-up class graduate Joe BROOKS on his first official workout with the regular classes! Joe, you did really well. I know you might not think I was paying attention because I was very busy gasping for air and grimacing in pain, but I was totally watching. Your deadlifts looked great!

Ok, this picture isn't from yesterday. We forgot the camera. It's a picture from last week's MAN ZONE workout. I swear Clark, the FireFighter Fran video is coming REAL soon!

  • Dave and I did the Burpee half mile this morning - 350 burpees in 1 hour. We'll have to work up to the one mile mark - brutal! ;)

  • Oh man, I can't believe I missed this one. Jennie, look at the sheet in my notebook to see where you fall.

  • I know. I'm sad I missed this one too. I've watched it on the mainsite and it looks brutal.

On a side note... Congrats to Garth and Dave for doing the Burpee Half Mile this morning. Awesome.

On a side side note... Congrats Joe Brooks on your first offiicial CrossFit workout. It'll be nice to have some Battlestar discussion around the Fort.

  • The Burpee Half Mile this morning was TOUGH, but a ton of fun. Garth and I definitely kept each other motivated through this one. First quarter mile was 173 burpees, and the second quarter mile was 177 burpees. Like Garth said, it took a full hour to complete.

The real motivation this morning, though, was STACEY! It's not everyday that you have a fully uniformed police officer cheering you on. The Burpee Half Mile today is dedicated to Stacey for sure!!

  • Well thanks Dave, but I wouldn't miss a crazy stunt like that having the opportunity.
"On a side note:" as some would say - Garth and Dave had great form and impressive, bounding, leaps. Leaps like they wanted it to end. Photos and video were taken of the dynamic duo to hopefully be posted on a crossfitfire page near you. Good work guys, way to push yourselves and take it to the limits.

  • Wait, Stacy was in uniform? Can you imagine what people driving by thought?! She should have held you at gunpoint. :-)

Garth, how many pairs of gloves did you use?

  • Just the one pair of gloves. But I did get a nice blister on the palm of my hand. Ouch!

Stacy looked great. The school security swung by to check us out because she figured we were giving Stacy some trouble ;)

  • Geez, the rumor around the courthouse is that the Vernon Hills P.D. has some weird roadside FSTs, but I never imagined burpees.

If that won't scare you off drinking and driving, nothing will.

  • Come on Brian, we at CFF all know that Stacy has her own style of FST:

"Step out of the car please, sir/ma'am."
"Stand up straight please. Look into this light, recite the alphabet please."
"Now, follow this light with your eyes while focusing straight ahead."
"Good. Now, walk heal to toe 10 feet straight forward."
"Good. Now back heal to toe please another 10 feet."
    "Great we're almost done...."

*opens trunk of Police car, pulls out weighted vest*

"Now, please put this on. You have 20 seconds to complete this. Go!"
    *Pulls out stopwatch*
"Last test. You have 45 seconds to complete 15 burpees. Ready GO!"

    That's how she rolls.

Oddly enough, it was communicate that Stacy has the HIGHEST level of DUI arrests in Vernon Hills. No idea why. :)

  • The best part is watching the suspects react when Stacy tells 'em at the roadside to do pull ups. The look on their faces is hilarious.

  • Wow! You guys are ruthless.
Come through town and I'll let you experience for yourselves my style of Field Sobriety Tests. You WILL fail. :-/

  • I may not have the highest DUI arrests, but I do hold the most weight, bench press, record in the department.
