How do you guys feel about workouts with the word "death" in them? You probably feel the same way about them that I do; a tiny bit scared. Yeesh.
The strength work yesterday was push-press. We did 5-5-5-3-3-3. We are trying to have everyone really focus on driving off the heels, and getting an aggressive hip pop to help drive the bar upwards. Audra has a VERY aggressive hip pop, and I was only slightly taken aback by her response to my compliment. Her response was, "thanks, your husband showed me how to do it." (insert giggling here)
The WOD was written on the board like this:
"Death by 10 meters"
That's it. No explanation. It was kind of funny to see people's puzzled expressions when they read the board. This workout is done by drawing two chalk lines, 10 meters apart. Under a running clock, you sprint 1 length in the first minute, 2 lengths in the second minute, 3 lengths in the third minute and so on until you can no longer complete the prescribed amount of sprints within the minute. This workout is REAL boring until about round 9. We required that everyone touch the line with their hand before changing directions and sprinting back. That definitely added a little more agility to the workout!
So let's go back to the NAME of the workout. "Death by 10m's". Nobody died. Nobody even came close! HA! We got YOU you silly workout! Now, if the workout was called, "Sort of crabby with extremely sore hamstrings by 10 meters" it would be perfectly named.
Our champion sprinter yesterday was Brian. For some sick reason, Brian LOVES running. It makes him happy to see it in the workouts. Congrats Brian for completing more than 17 rounds!

Whoops read the full title, great job. Still looked like you could do more. Great Job with over 2Bills three times. What weight class are you going to be at the Winter Classic? Looks like I have competition.

I loved this WOD and how it left me feeling the next day. I felt so energized when I had to get out of bed at 4am. I think we should do death by 10m more often for endurance.
Good job Brian! I got to see the awesomeness first hand.

I will be in for a rematch on Saturday....I am sure The Garth Show is interested as well, and although TommyMo is not a big fan of it, I am sure we can persuade him to try and beat Garth this time...

Hell yeah! I had a pulled glute that morning and it totally slowed me down. Even so, I still got 16 sprints and just couldn't quite get that 17th sprint in under a minute to continue on. I had plenty of gas in the tank and could have given you guys a run for your money. Game on!

ps - Auds is sassy like that Jennie! You gotta watch out for her

Oh no, here we go again.....
Why do I have a feeling that peer pressure is coming my way once again?
Garth is the one wearing Superman shirts and sticking Superman stickers on his car, not me.
Anyone going to aim some of that peer pressure at the "Death by 10M champion" Mr. Brian "The Galloping Gazelle" Smith?

Ummm, Tom...... Brian initiated..See above (1st line bro)

Bring your Under Armour Tommy, gonna be a cold one tomorrow morning.
Unless, of course, we're going to try to do this inside, which would be madness.
December 4, 2009, 1:39 pm
I'll run it shirtless - don't care how cold it is! I hope to get out and pick up some new shoes today. With all this recent running, my existing shoes are near to falling apart
December 4, 2009, 2:12 pm
And the "Most Observant" award today goes to....uhh...myself.
Thanks for pointing that out to me, Stacy.
Since you're going shirtless outside show, I am going to have an ice bath waiting for you when this is over.
Should cool you down nicely.
